After back-to-back impressive wins to start the preseason at SoFi Stadium, the Los Angeles Rams went on the road to take on the Cleveland Browns in their final exhibition game on Saturday morning.

It’s no secret that Sean McVay doesn’t play his starters in the preseason, but considering this was the third and final game before the regular season, he was extra cautious and sat out key backups as well.

Meanwhile, the Browns played all of their starters for a couple of series’ in the first half. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, earning a 17-16 victory at Huntington Bank Field. The Rams still battled though and will finish the preseason with a 2-1 record.

Stetson Bennett has been the Rams’ star at quarterback this preseason. He showed enough in the first two games though so did not suit up in this one.

That meant Dresser Winn got the start at quarterback, and he and the Rams’ offense struggled early. It wasn’t until late in the first half that they put a scoring drive together.

That drive featured Rams rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson, who was the team’s top draft pick in the second round. Ferguson missed the first two preseason games due to injury so the coaching staff wanted to get his feet wet in this one.

He made two catches on L.A.’s first touchdown drive for 48 yards, including a long 33-yard pass from Wynn. Drake Stoops then was on the receiving end of the touchdown, but the Rams still trailed 16-7 at the half.

Shedeur Sanders, who has obviously been talked about a lot this preseason, got the start for the Browns in the second half. He looked great in his preseason debut, but that wasn’t the case in this one as the Rams defensive line was getting after him. They had a few sacks, including a strip sack.

With the defense stepping up, Dresser put another touchdown drive together to give the Rams their first lead. Tru Edwards, who caught the game-winning touchdown last week, made a circus catch on the sideline on fourth down to keep the drive alive and then Jordan Waters punched it in for the score.

The Browns had one last drive with Tyler Huntley running the show, and unfortunately the Rams committed some costly penalties to allow them to get into field goal range for the game-winning kick.

What’s next for the Rams

Now that the preseason has come to an end, the Rams will have to trim their roster down to 53 players, which won’t be an easy task given all of the talent on the roster.

L.A. will next take the field on Sunday, Sept. 6 when they host the Houston Texans at SoFi Stadium in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season.
