USATSI_8026606_154224518_lowresThe New York Giants are confident that wide receiver Victor Cruz will sign a new deal before their training camp begins. If the team does not give him a new deal, it is possible that Cruz may hold out.

According to NBC Sports, the Giants do not feel a hold out will happen and the Giants and Cruz will come to a long-term agreement.

Cruz is almost certain to show up to Giants camp before August 6, holding out beyond August 6 would cost him the opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent in 2014. But it sounds like the Giants are very confident that this contract negotiation will be over before August, and that Cruz will be locked in for the long term within the next few weeks.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the deal will get done.

“Everybody I’ve spoken to expects that deal to absolutely get done, to a 100 percent degree of certainty, that Victor Cruz will have a new contract by the time the Giants open training camp.”

Last year Cruz had 86 receptions for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns. Cruz was by far the teams leading receiver and it would be a huge loss to the Giants if this deal does happen to stall and Cruz holds out.

NFL training camps are scheduled to open on July 17.
