Former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is in the process of filling out his coaching staff for the 2024 season as the Atlanta Falcons’ new head coach.
After hiring former Rams assistants Zac Robinson and Jimmy Lake to coordinator positions on his staff, Morris has successfully brought over three other coaches from L.A. with him to Atlanta.
Former Rams coaching analyst Tim Berbenich was hired to be the Falcons’ new pass-game specialist/game management. He has coached in the NFL since 2003, including stints with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans.
Former Rams offensive assistant K.J. Black will serve in the same role for the Falcons next season. In his only season with the Rams, he specifically worked with the team’s quarterbacks alongside Robinson.
Another former Rams offensive assistant in Nick Jones is also heading to the Falcons to be their new assistant offensive line coach. Jones spent the last three seasons in L.A., and before that, began his coaching career with Atlanta.
The Rams now have potentially five positions to fill on Sean McVay’s coaching staff for the 2024 season from the Falcons’ hirings alone. The only spot they have addressed so far is defensive coordinator, which will see Chris Shula replace Morris.
L.A. still needs to find replacement for Robinson (quarterbacks coach/pass-game coordinator), Lake (assistant head coach), Berbenich, Black and Jones.
Rams hire Giff Smith as defensive line coach/run game coordinator
Earlier this offseason, the Rams lost a valuable member of their coaching staff as defensive line coach/run game coordinator Eric Henderson was hired by USC to be their new co-defensive coordinator.
It appears the team has found a replacement for Henderson as former Los Angeles Chargers interim head coach Giff Smith was brought in to be their defensive line coach/run game coordinator.
