Going into the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams had significant question marks all over the field, specifically at the wide receiver position.
After letting go of veterans like Robert Woods, Odell Beckham Jr. and Allen Robinson in recent years, the Rams were left with Cooper Kupp, who was coming off an injury-plagued season, and a bunch of young guys at receiver.
Given their lack of cap space, the Rams were not able to address the wide receiver position as much as they had wanted although they were able to bring in a veteran in Demarcus Robinson on a one-year contract.
Robinson has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens in his career so knows what winning football looks like.
Now that the Rams are 13 games into their season, the wide receiver position has become one of their strengths and Robinson has played a big part in that.
After not contributing at all to begin the year, Robinson has gotten snaps in each of the last five games and has hauled in 12 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He has scored in back-to-back games, including against his former team the Ravens in Week 14.
After that performance, Robinson discussed his time with the Rams and how much he is enjoying the wide receiver room, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“Just trying to come in, have a positive attitude, knowing I had a chance to make the team, and granted I did,” Robinson said this week. “Just trying to teach guys stuff and learn from other guys like Cooper (Kupp) and some of the other guys, Matthew (Stafford), Tyler Higbee. Just trying to learn from other other teammates and, shoot, help the younger ones. I didn’t know our wide receiver room was gonna be as stacked as it was, but that’s crazy how well Puka (Nacua)’s doing.”
As someone whose phone wasn’t ringing when free agency started last offseason and didn’t play much in the first half of the season, Robinson is enjoying getting the chance to actually contribute the last few weeks:
“It feels great, man,” Robinson said. “It feels good to be able to be used and be a part of something, knowing that you are able to contribute. Knowing the coaches and your teammates trust in you to be able to get those opportunities, and then go out and be able to make plays with those opportunities. It only leads to more, so I’m pretty excited.”
With Tutu Atwell currently in concussion protocol, his status for the Week 15 matchup against the Washington Commanders is in jeopardy so Robinson could continue to get more looks for L.A. this weekend.
