After a Week 1 flop against the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Rams have bounced back nicely as they’ve won their past two games.
Currently the leaders of the NFC West, the Rams have a lot more work to do to ensure they get a chance to defend their Super Bowl title. The road to repeating is an arduous one, as they’ve got one of the most difficult schedules remaining in the NFL.
It looked like Los Angeles may have a caught a break when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott injured his thumb in Week 1 and was forced to have surgery to repair it. Prescott looked like he was in danger of missing a chunk of the season, but he said he’s been feeling better and announced he would be returning to the field soon, via Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today:
“I’ve been better,” Prescott told USA TODAY Sports. “But now that we’re winning it’s all good. And I’ll be back soon.”
Prescott confirmed it would be unlikely he suits up during Week 4 against the Washington Commanders but revealed he is targeting a return in Week 5 against the Rams:
“Nah, probably not,” he said of suiting up against Washington. “But Week 5 against the Rams? That’s the one I’m looking at.”
Dallas must have felt confident that Prescott’s rehab wouldn’t take long after they decided not to move him to short-term IR, good news for them but potentially bad news for Los Angeles. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has done well in Prescott’s stead as he’s led the Cowboys to back-to-back wins, but there’s no denying that their team is much better with Prescott at the helm.
It’ll be interesting to see how limited Prescott is considering the thumb injury occurred on his throwing hand, but knowing the Rams, they’ll gameplan with the assumption that the Cowboys will run their usual plays. Until then, L.A. will focus on their upcoming Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
