The Los Angeles Rams were eliminated from the playoffs with a 28-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Divisional Round.
While the outcome was shocking for players and coaches, the team will now shift their focus to the offseason.
With quarterback Matthew Stafford’s future with the Rams up in the air, Pro Bowl wide receiver Cooper Kupp is in the same situation.
Kupp confirmed that he is planning to play in 2025 but doesn’t know if it will be with the Rams, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com:
Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp said Monday there is “no doubt” in his mind that he wants to play football next season and that while he “would love to be in L.A.,” he has no control over what will happen this offseason.
“I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me,” Kupp said in the Rams’ final open locker room session of the season. “I’ll be playing football next year. That much I know.”
Kupp reiterated his desire to remain with the Rams but noted the decision is out of his control:
“Who knows what’s going to happen,” Kupp said. “That’s out of my control. And we will see what it’s going to be. … I don’t have any clarity on what that’s going to look like or anything like that. So yeah, obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don’t know what that’s going to look like.”
Kupp acknowledged that the 2024 season was challenging from a team standpoint and on a personal level:
“There’s all these things you’re weathering through offensively, things that I feel like, man, we should be better than the product we’re putting out there in terms of the production and the points that are being scored,” Kupp said. “And then just for me personally feeling like, man, there’s things, I’m watching film, feeling good about football and playing, but productionwise it’s not showing up. And a lot of stuff’s outside of my control. And it is frustrating.”
Kupp was sidelined for a month because of an ankle injury but returned in Week 7 and immediately looked like his old self.
However, the 31-year-old received fewer targets as the season progressed. From Week 14 through the Wild Card Round, he caught only five passes for 82 yards and no touchdowns (four games).
Kupp was more involved against the Eagles as he caught five passes for 61 yards — both of which were his highest totals since Week 13.
Despite getting more looks in his final game of the season, it’s easy to see why Kupp was frustrated throughout the year. He finished with 67 catches, 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games.
Cooper Kupp’s contract with Rams
Cooper Kupp has two years remaining on his contract, with $5 million guaranteed in 2025. If the Rams cut him this offseason, they will save about $7.52 million against the salary cap.
Considering that the team was open to moving Kupp at the NFL trade deadline last year, it would not come as a surprise if the two sides ultimately part ways this offseason.
