The Los Angeles Rams offense exploded in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, but Cooper Kupp and company found it difficult to move the football against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15.
The rainy weather conditions didn’t help, but the Rams still struggled to make some routine throws against the 49ers.
Both teams’ passing games left much to be desired as the only points scored were on field goals, but Los Angeles managed to hold out for a 12-6 victory.
Puka Nacua was the team’s leading receiver, though Kupp didn’t see any involvement in the passing game as he was held without a catch. Although Kupp was happy the Rams won, he admitted it was hard not feeling like he contributed as a receiver.
“You’re obviously frustrated,” Kupp said. “You want to be able to contribute in the pass game and that goes without saying. I don’t think anyone needs to say that they want to be able to have opportunities to touch the ball, but at the same time the way that game played out, that’s not what I was asked to do and I’m going to execute whatever they’re asking me.
“That’s been our thing here for years. Whatever it’s going to take to win, that’s what we have to do. We have the right guys in the building to understand that and that’s what we pride ourselves on. We’re going to do it. We know in the receiver room that if we come in and they ask us like, ‘Hey, we’re going 12-personnel and we’re running the ball every time this week,’ it’s like, ‘Hey, let’s go. Let’s figure out how we’re going to make that happen and how to make it come to life.’ The way that game played out, that’s what I was asked to do.”
Kupp is about as selfless of a player as there is in the league as he’s never complained about his role or doing what’s asked. He’s certainly proven over the years that he can dominate the game as a pass catcher, so it’s understandable he was disappointed he couldn’t do more against San Francisco.
Regardless, Kupp is too important to the offense to be left out again so the expectation is he’ll be more involved in Week 16 against the New York Jets.
Sena McVay says Rams haven’t discussed adding Odell Beckham Jr.
One interesting name that’s been linked to the Rams in the past week is Odell Beckham Jr. who was released by the Miami Dolphins. While Los Angeles is a natural fit for Beckham, Sean McVay acknowledged that the team hasn’t discussed potentially signing him.
