The Los Angeles Rams’ flurry of signings at the start of free agency included reuniting with center Coleman Shelton on a two-year contract.

Shelton spent the first five seasons of his career in L.A. before making a brief stop with the Chicago Bears last year. “It feels great. I feel great,” Shelton said of being back with the Rams.

“I’m very happy to be back being from L.A. and back close to family. We’re very excited to be home.”

Shelton didn’t know how free agency would unfold for him, but he is happy to be back with the Rams. “It’s kind of just how free agency progresses. You never really know where you’re going to start,” Shelton said.

“As things progress, you get a feel for more teams and stuff like that. This one just started happening and I was excited to get back here.”

Shelton continued: “I was definitely excited. As I learned from free agency, you don’t really want to put too much hope into one thing.

“You kind of want to go with the flow and see how it progresses. I was definitely excited about it and I’m really happy to be here.”

Shelton noted that he missed some of the things that the Rams do well compared to other organizations. “Sure. You can say a lot. Even when I was here, we had a lot of success,” he said.

“I was just excited about the opportunity. Obviously, you want to be around as many great coaches, great players and be around family, so it was definitely exciting.”

Shelton will likely compete with Beaux Limmer for the starting job at center and overall thinks the Rams have one of the better offensive lines in football. “I’m excited to get going,” he said.

“Obviously, I know a lot of the guys and then there are a couple new guys last year who I’ll get to know and I’m excited to meet them. I’m just ready to get after it, hit the ground running and be with a lot of familiar faces.”

Coleman Shelton’s NFL career

Colege Shelton made 17 starts for the Bears in 2024 and posted a modest 66.4 PFF grade, which ranked 19th out of 64 players at center.

The Pasadena, Calif., native became a starter for the Rams during the 2022 season and went on to appear in 30 of a possible 34 games for the L.A. over the next two years.
