If the Dallas Cowboys plan on finally getting over that 8-8 hump they have been stuck at for the last three seasons, they will need their defense to step up in a big way.
That task seems to be getting more and more difficult as the Cowboys have now lost CB Orlando Scandrick for four games after failing a PED test.
According to Pro Football Talk, Scandrick tested positive for amphetamines, likely from taking MDMA, also known as ‘Molly’:
The problem for Scandrick and, apparently, other NFL players who have tested positive for PEDs this offseason is that the MDMA they have taken on a recreational basis wasn’t pure, and it contained amphetamines. Amphetamines remain a banned substance under the PED policy.
While MDMA itself isn’t banned by the NFL, the amphetamines that can be present in them is banned under the PED policy.
Because there is no HGH testing in the NFL, all amphetamines fall under the PED policy as opposed to the substance abuse policy which doesn’t involve a suspension upon the first failed test. Amphetamines taken recreationally during the off-season have no effect on a player’s overall abilities.
For the Cowboys, this is just another loss on defense that they can ill afford. DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher were the team’s two best defensive linemen last season and both left in free agency.
Additionally, the team has already lost star LB Sean Lee for the season, and rookie DE Demarcus Lawrence, an expected starter, will miss 8-10 weeks with a broken foot.
Scandrick had been the one consistently healthy cornerback this off-season, but now he has a special understanding of rapper Trinidad James’ famous line, ‘Popped a molly, I’m sweatin’ WOO!’
