Los Angeles Rams quarterback Case Keenum set a franchise record in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions as he completed 19 straight passes in the game.
He broke quarterback Jim Everett’s record, as Everett completed 18 straight against the New York Giants in 1989, a record that stood for 27 years.
Despite the Rams losing the game 31-28, it was a great feat for Keenum and a struggling offense and will help build momentum going into their Week 7 matchup with the New York Giants.
According to Myles Simmons of therams.com, Keenum credited the record to his teammates and coaching staff:
“I think we were well prepared. I think the coaches did a great job preparing us. Guys are playing hard,” Keenum said. “I thought I gave guys chances to make plays down the field. Obviously, the guys did a lot more than they didn’t.”
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher thinks that the game is finally slowing down for Keenum in his fifth season as a pro:
“He got very comfortable,” Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said on Wednesday. “The game slowed down for him. Nineteen consecutive completions is hard to do, and he did it.”
Through the team’s first six games Keenum has completed a career-high 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,417 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions.
While it is still clear to Keenum that rookie No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff is the team’s future starter and probably will get playing time at some point this season, Keenum has done a good job leading his team every week and keeping them in a division race as at 3-3 they sit 1.5 games behind the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West.
