Just like any other professional sport, the National Football League provides many friendships that last beyond the realm of football. Teammates become friends after they move on to a new contract. That was the case with Janoris Jenkins, who left the Los Angeles Rams in order to pursue a contract with the New York Giants.
It just so happens that Jenkins and the Giants face head coach Jeff Fisher and the Rams entering Week 7. As a part of the NFL in London, the two teams will square off at Twickenham stadium in front of a large audience.
Unsure of American Football, London will be in for quite the treat and will experience a hard fought battle by both sides. Fisher and the Rams are being acclimated to the time change in London, with the game kicking off at 6:30 A.M. PST this week.
Quarterback Case Keenum will face off against Jenkins and the Giants defense, which is playing at a phenomenal level. The Giants spent their offseason money addressing the defense.
Jenkins leads the Giants with two interceptions and seven passes defended this season. Keenum played with Jenkins while the two were on the St. Louis Rams, stating Jenkins is someone to be careful of, via Myles Simmons of theRams.com:
“But you know, we’re a year different,” Keenum said. “Scout team’s obviously a little different going against a guy. It’s a different defense, a different scheme. He’s a great player and he’s showing up on film. It’s no surprise. But we got to know where he is at all times.”
The quarterback understands the secondary of the Giants will be a promising opponent. However, Keenum has a lot of momentum rolling into Week 7, after completing a franchise-record 20 straight passing attempts in Week 6.
Fisher also provided insight into how Jenkins has done this season, complimenting his old player and how he has faired:
“I’ve got great respect for some of the top corners in the league, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone playing better than he is right now,” Fisher said Thursday of Jenkins. “He’s got a lot of PBUs … and he’s tackling well, he’s running well — looks like he’s in great shape.”
The Rams passed on signing Jenkins this season, in order to ink Trumaine Johnson to the franchise tender. While Johnson has done tremendous things for the Rams this season, Jenkins departing was a tough loss.
While the Giants defensive backs have been making plays, they are also allowing a lot of yardage. Coming into Week 7, they are allowing 288.2 passing yards per game, the third most in the NFL this season.
The Rams will certainly have a scouting report on Jenkins and his peers entering Sunday, in an attempt to keep up with the high-scoring offense of the Giants.
