The Los Angeles Rams defense has been the catalyst for the team this season, as the offense hasn’t been able to produce consistent points. Unfortunately for head coach Jeff Fisher, the defense took a hit, as cornerback Troy Hill has been released following an arrest.
The cornerback had been a key player for the secondary, starting in four contests this season. He played in nine games, remaining an important part of the secondary that has made it difficult for many opposing quarterbacks to score.
The 5’11”, 175 lbs. defensive back was in his second season, after originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Rams picked him up this offseason, as he earned a prominent role in the secondary coming out of training camp.
The news was made official on Wednesday, with Greg Beachem of the Associated Press stating the importance Hill had in the defense:
The Rams just waived CB Troy Hill after his arrest. He started 4 games and was 4th on the roster in tackles.

Once the news regarding the arrest had been official, Fisher stated that Rams wanted to be fully informed about the matter before making the decision. Apparently the organization had gotten what they needed to hear and wanted to no longer be associated with the 25-year-old.
In those nine games played, Hill recorded two passes defended and 33 tackles (29 solo). Those 33 tackles were ranked fourth on the team, so Hill’s departure surely will have an impact moving forward.
Fisher must now choose from LaMarcus Joyner, E.J. Gaines or Dwayne Gratz as the replacement for Hill in the secondary.
Heading into Week 12, the Rams travel to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, as they face off against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
