The Los Angeles Rams managed to get back on track coming out of the bye with their biggest win of the 2020 NFL season so far.
It is safe to say that the Rams took full advantage of the extra week off. Not only did they have more time to prepare for a pictorial NFC West showdown against the Seattle Seahawks, but they were also able to focus on their philanthropic efforts off the field.
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth led the way by serving as the co-host of the 3rd Annual “LA Rams Night for Wishes” charity event. The team paired up with Make-A-Wish Tri-Counties to help fulfill the wishes of local children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
The virtual event led by Whitworth helped raised more than $163,500, via Chase Issacs of the team’s website:
“Unless you’ve really been there and had a kid with that experience, you can’t imagine what those families need from a love standpoint so we’re just putting an arm around them,” said Whitworth. “Anything that you can do to make a difference, whether it’s donating or finding a way to be a part of granting these wishes…I promise you will never regret it.”
Whitworth elaborated on what it means for him to have a chance to give back with this foundation:
“It’s always meant a lot to me to be a part of this foundation. It began with the opportunity to start my own foundation and see how special it was to make a difference in kid’s lives and family’s lives,” said Whitworth. “When I moved out to Southern California and saw that Make-A-Wish was in this area, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to be a part of this. It’s been one of the greatest parts of my career so far, being here these last few years and having a chance to grant wishes. I’ll never forget those moments and being with those kids.”
Whitworth had some help hosting the event in NFL Network host Andrew Siciliano, comedian Pat McGann and philanthropist Andrew Firestone. He also recruited teammates like tight end Tyler Higbee, linebacker Troy Reeder, offensive lineman Bobby Evans and long snapper Jake McQuaide.
Whitworth recently suffered a torn left MCL and damage to the PCL during the 23-16 victory over the Seahawks. Although the former Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee may be sidelined, the impact he leaves can still be heavily felt around the organization.
