The biggest offseason move for the Los Angeles Rams was the signing of wide receiver Allen Robinson to a three-year contract. Despite a down year with the Chicago Bears — partially due to a tumultuous quarterback situation — Robinson should still serve as an incredibly talented No. 2 option to Matthew Stafford.
Robinson likely had a number of suitors in free agency, as there are plenty of teams in need of receiver help. With the assumption being that steady QB play should help unlock Robinson’s skillset, the Rams were the perfect team to take the risk.
For the new Rams wide receiver, it was the culture of L.A. and the organization that drew him to signing. He spoke about this following the official signing of his three-year deal, according to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“Feels great man, feels great,” Robinson told theRams.com after arriving at and touring the team’s facility. “Obviously from the outside looking in, you can kind of see the culture and also feel the culture that the Rams have created and established. And also playing with some of my former teammates and kind of talking to them whether it’s in the offseason, or before game or after the game about how it is playing in Los Angeles, I’ve always heard nothing but great things. So to be a part of it, I’m excited.”
After a couple of difficult years with the Bears, having a steady organization behind him is a great motivating factor. But Robinson is also looking to help the Rams hoist a second Lombardi Trophy:
“The thing I’m looking forward to most is to help this team go on another Super Bowl run,” Robinson said. “They got their ring, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting mine. If I can be a part of running this thing back, that’s what I’m here for.”
The Rams clearly have faith in Robinson to help them achieve that. Shortly after signing the former Bears receiver to a contract, they traded fan-favorite Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans for a sixth-round pick.
By trading Woods, they are putting their chips into Robinson being a quality No. 2 receiver behind Cooper Kupp for years to come. And at this point, it remains to be seen if Odell Beckham Jr. will be brought back as a No. 3.
Kupp thanks Woods after trade
Kupp and Woods built an unbreakable bond during their years together with the Rams. As Woods departs for the Titans via trade, Kupp released a heartfelt statement thanking Woods for his work to help build the Rams into what they’ve become.
