The Los Angeles Rams defense had a field day against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. At the forefront of their dominance was Aaron Donald.

However, Donald is still not satisfied with their performance. According to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire, he is adamant that the team should not rest on their merits just yet:

“I don’t know, but I know I’ve got room for improvement. We all got room for improvement. We just got to keep getting better, stay hungry and keep this roll on because being 7-0 feels good, but we’ve got to stay hungry,” he said.

It is encouraging to see Donald has high expectations for this group. It is certainly for good reason considering all the talent they have. However, it is clear that their success starts up front with the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Donald managed to double his season total for sacks in just one game with four against San Francisco. He also tacked on eight tackles to go with a one-armed strip and recovery for the ages. He is now the NFL’s current sack leader and is applying pressure at a mind-boggling rate once again. If there was any doubt that he was worth the lucrative deal before the season, it has certainly been erased now.

Regardless, Donald is not ready to rest on his merits just yet. Despite their stellar outing, the Rams defense still has plenty of voids to fill. For starters, their porous run defense continues to allow huge chunks of yardage on the ground. It appears Donald himself is well aware of this.

“Yeah, but I feel like we did things wrong as far as the run, especially me. I jumped into my gap a couple of times and hurt us. Just got to clean up little things. It’s a part of the game just trying to make a play happen, but just got to be more sound at times,” he added.

Fortunately, the Rams high-scoring offense often forces opposing teams to abandon the run early on. However, the time will come when their inability to stop the run will come back to haunt them. It is safe to say Donald would like to address these issues sooner rather than later.
