With the Los Angeles Rams on their bye week, there was some speculation they would be considering a quarterback change after Case Keenum’s four-interception outing in London. Those rumors were quickly dismissed after head coach Jeff Fisher made it clear the team was going to stick with Keenum as their starter for the time being.
While some assumed Fisher was being stubborn by not handing over Goff the reigns, Jason Cole of Bleacher Report suggested the reason Goff has not been named the starter is because he still has a long way to go.
Just days following the report, Fisher dispelled those rumors that his top pick still has a long way to go before being named the starter according to Joe Curley of Ventura County Star:
“I don’t know if you guys have seen Jason (Cole) here at practice,” Fisher said. “There’s only one source here and that’s me so I don’t know where that’s coming from. It’s a little absurd that somebody that far removed would make that kind of comment based on that source.”
The report comes just days after the Rams suffered their third straight loss in a row, despite beginning the season 3-1 and atop the NFC West. This season has featured a number of rookie quarterbacks selected behind Goff that have started under center already.
This has left the Rams faithful wondering if the team made the right choice. However, Fisher does have a long history of patience with his highly-coveted picks. Most notably, Steve McNair, who did not make his first start until his third season.
