The Los Angeles Rams suffered a disappointing blowout loss in their first game of the 2026 season, losing to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. They also sustained a number of injuries during the game, the most notable of which is losing Myles Garrett for at least four weeks to undergo an arthroscopic knee surgery.
As the team prepares for their Week 2 game on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants, head coach Sean McVay spoke about some of the other injured players, starting with safety Kam Curl, who is dealing with an ankle issue, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
McVay said safety Kam Curl, who sustained an ankle injury, was able to return to the game and described that injury as “some ankle soreness.” McVay said Curl “is good.”
Linebacker Nate Landman (shoulder, thumb) is also expected to be good to go in Week 2:
Inside linebacker Nate Landman “got his shoulder and his thumb,” according to McVay, but is still expected to be ready to go for Monday Night Football against the Giants.
Tight end Davis Allen appeared to suffer a head injury but was able to return in Week 1 and is not in concussion protocol:
Tight end Davis Allen, who was evaluated for a concussion, returned to the game, per McVay.
And finally, linebacker Omar Speights is also making good progress after suffering a hip injury:
McVay called those updates on those three players “positive.” He also said inside linebacker Omar Speights sustained a hip pointer and “has got some swelling there … but he’s feeling better than what we had anticipated.”
“He’s making positive gains right now,” McVay said of Speights.
Fortunately for McVay and the Rams, most of this news is positive. It appears that Curl, Landman and Allen will all likely take the field on Monday night against the Giants. Speights, meanwhile, has a more unclear status, as McVay wouldn’t say anything one way or another about this week.
With Garrett on injured reserve and Aaron Donald two years removed from his last NFL snaps, the Rams are going to need all the defensive depth they can have as they get into the bulk of the regular season.

The earliest that the Rams could get Garrett back into the mix is Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, McVay isn’t entirely guaranteeing that they’re going to get him back as soon as they can. They want to be cautious with their superstar pass rusher, saying that they’re going to take it one day at a time until the four weeks are up, then see where they’re at.
