The Los Angeles Rams shocked the football world by completing a blockbuster trade for Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, making them the clear favorites to win the Super Bowl this upcoming season.
Rams fans, players and coaches are obviously ecstatic about the move, but the same can’t be said about other teams in the NFC West. San Francisco 49ers star left tackle Trent Williams gave a blunt answer when he was asked about the Rams acquiring Garrett.
“Same as everybody,” Williams told the local media during OTAs. “Everybody that’s not in Rams country. Yeah, I mean, it sucks.”
Williams will now have the tough task of blocking Garrett twice a year, something he is not looking forward to as he expects the all-time single-season sack leader to get even better in L.A.
“The scary part is he’s still a young player, so he’s still going to get better,” Williams said. “I know it’s scary after seeing what he did last year. I’m never expecting to run into the same player. I know that we see him Week 1 in Australia. He probably will be a little bit better than he was the last time I seen him. Just got to buckle up. It’s going to be tough. I ain’t the only one that’s gotta block him. There’s 31 other teams that got the same news, so it is what it is.”
Someone like Williams making these comments just goes to show how much respect Garrett has around the league. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year put up big numbers in Cleveland, but now he will have the chance to compete for a Super Bowl as he looks to cement his Hall of Fame career.
Garrett and Williams matchups will be fun to watch, starting with Week 1 when the Rams and 49ers will square off in Australia.

Garrett had a full no-trade clause so easily could have backed out of the trade to the Rams. Instead though, he is excited about the opportunity to compete for championships in L.A. as that is all that is motivating him at this stage of his career.
“Since the very beginning, it’s always been about winning,” Garrett said. “It just breaks down to the time I have left in this league. What does it look like for me to be a winner now? And to an opportunity to do that here, that was an opportunity that was just too difficult to pass up.”
