Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua has been in the headlines for some wrong reasons the last few months, putting his future into question.

Nacua is arguably the best receiver in the league and is due for a massive extension this offseason, but the Rams are not going to do that if he is misbehaving and getting into trouble off the field. It seems that Nacua realizes he has gone too far as his attorney revealed that the wide receiver recently checked into a Malibu rehab facility to get right, per Edward Lewis of the California Post:

Puka Nacua has checked into rehab following allegations he bit a woman while drunk on New Year’s Eve.

The Rams receiver’s attorney, Levi McCathern, confirmed with The California Post on Wednesday that his client has been at a luxury treatment center in Malibu.

While McCathern said the move was not a direct response to the lawsuit Nacua’s bite accuser, Madison Atiabi, filed against him late last month, the lawyer did say “the combination of stories ya’ll have run is certainly a contributing factor.”

“He was in there a substantial period of time before any of these allegations broke with Madison,” McCathern said, “and he’s scheduled to be there for a while longer.”

McCathern added that Nacua’s goal with the stay is “to improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life that he can do it.”

“And I’m really proud of him doing it and doing it in this offseason.”

Nacua’s attorney released a statement to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network explaining the plan, which includes being ready to go for OTA later this offseason:

Nacua is extremely talented on the field and by all accounts, a good-hearted kid off it. Sometimes people can get on the wrong path though, so it is great to see Nacua addressing this head on right away in order to better himself to be a player and person that the Rams organization and fans can be proud of moving forward.

Sean McVay & Rams want to help Puka Nacua

Rams head coach Sean McVay recently discussed Nacua’s situation, expressing support for the star receiver.

“The play on the field is amazing and then with what the play has dictated and determined there is a responsibility in terms of representing all things not exclusive to just that,” McVay said. “We are hopeful that… this will be an opportunity for him to learn and grow, and we are hopeful that he’s a Ram for a really long time. But he understands what the responsibility is not exclusive to just the production on the field.”
