The Los Angeles Rams are not messing around this offseason as they are clearly looking to maximize their Super Bowl window while Matthew Stafford is still playing at a high level.

The Rams addressed their secondary issues by completing a blockbuster trade for cornerback Trent McDuffie and re-signing safety Kam Curl. They also brought back a familiar face in Tyler Higbee, who has been the leader of their tight end room for the last decade.

It remains to be seen what other moves the Rams will make, but they seem to be in the market for a wide receiver. They obviously already have the best duo in the league in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but they can use some more depth behind that.

Additionally, Nacua is due for a contract extension this offseason and Adams is in the last year of his deal at age 33, so there aren’t any long-term plans in place at the moment.

Because of that, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Rams had spoken with the Philadelphia Eagles about star receiver A.J. Brown before eventually moving on:

This would have been a massive deal for the Rams as Nacua, Adams and Brown would be an unstoppable trio for Stafford to work with.

Realistically though, it wouldn’t have made much sense to allocate that many resources to the wide receiver position, especially when it is already a strength of the team.

Brown is unquestionably one of the best receivers in the league, but he would have cost the Rams significant draft capital and likely a big-money extension as well. Instead of using one of their two first-round picks on Brown, L.A. wisely traded the 29th pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for McDuffie to address an actual need.

After Nacua and Adams, the Rams’ current wide receiver depth includes Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield and likely Xavier Smith once he signs his restricted free agent tender. The Rams could still use some more help, especially given their lack of a true deep threat, so look for them to address that in the draft or free agency.

Rams would like to re-sign Jimmy Garoppolo

One other move the Rams need to make this offseason is bringing in a backup quarterback for Stafford as Jimmy Garoppolo is set to hit free agency.

While Garoppolo could be in line for a starting job somewhere, Sean McVay made it clear that the Rams would love to have him back for a third season if that doesn’t happen.
