As is usually the case, Los Angeles Rams have had some members of their staff interview for head coaching openings this offseason.

Sean McVay has found some of the brightest young coaches in the league over the last handful of years, and this cycle included defensive coordinator Chris Shula, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase all getting multiple head coaching interviews.

While Shula and LaFleur may still be in the mix for jobs, it appears Scheelhaase will be remaining with the Rams for another year and should be in the mix for head coaching openings next offseason, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:

The Browns notified Rams assistant Nate Scheelhaase this AM they were going in a different direction.

He plans to stay with the Rams and be a factor next cycle.

Will see what happens with Jim Schwartz but one team source told me Todd Monken and Schwartz had similarities as…

Scheelhaase appeared to be a finalist for the Cleveland Browns job, but they went on to hire Todd Monken instead.

The only two openings still left are the Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals, which he was not in the mix for. LaFleur is one of the finalists for the Cardinals job but if he doesn’t get hired, then it’s possible the Rams don’t lose any coaches this offseason.

That would be huge for McVay and his staff and he is used to having to fill openings to start every offseason. If that is not the case this year then he can shift his focus to improving the roster along with Les Snead through the draft and free agency.

While Scheelhaase is likely disappointed that he didn’t get a head coaching gig, he is only 35 years of age and viewed as one of the bright, young, up-and-coming coaches in the league, so his time will come.

Rams’ Matthew Stafford tells Cooper Kupp to go win Super Bowl

After the Rams’ loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, Matthew Stafford found his former teammate Cooper Kupp and told him to win the Super Bowl.

Kupp is in his first season with the Seahawks after spending the previous eight in L.A. He caught a touchdown against the Rams in the NFC Championship Game and had a key catch for a first down on Seattle’s final drive that allowed them to run out most of the clock.
