The Los Angeles Rams announced they have signed outside lineback Jesse Luketa to their practice squad.
The Rams have one of the best defenses in football but they are always looking to improve their roster any chance they get. After clearing a spot on their practice squad by releasing linebacker Jamil Muhammad, the team wasted no time filling it.
Luketa was a seventh-round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2022 and he wound up spending three seasons with the organization.
Luketa was in the midst of a career year in 2024 before sustaining a season-ending thigh injury. In 10 games (two starts), he recorded three sacks, 21 tackles and one forced fumble.
Now healthy again, it isn’t clear what Luketa’s role will be with the Rams. However, it never hurts to add depth, and the Rams got a good player in Luketa.
He is beginning with the Rams’ practice squad but could have a chance to see time on the active roster, especially if there are any injuries.
Fortunately for the Rams, they have one of the deepest outside linebacker groups with Jared Verse, Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart leading the way.
Rams head coach Sean McVay praises Ethan Evans for big punt against Seahawks
The Rams hung on to beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11 to take over sole possession of first place in the NFC West, but the game was a lot closer than it should’ve been.
L.A.’s defense stepped up in a big way with four interceptions of Sam Darnold. But when it came time to put the game away in the final minutes, the offense was unable to do so.
The Rams had no choice but to punt the ball back to Seattle, and thankfully Ethan Evans came up with arguably the biggest play of the day. He hit literally a perfect punt down the left sideline that bounced at the 2-yard line and then bounced again just before the pylon inside the 1-yard line before going out of bounds.
The Rams likely would not have won if not for that punt, so head coach Sean McVay made sure to give praise to Evans:
“It was big,” head coach Sean McVay said. “It was awesome to be able to see special teams… you’re not taking for granted making all the extra points. We needed every single one of them today. I thought Ethan… He did a great job on those. He had to speed up his delivery on a couple, but the protection was really good. Shaheed’s a dangerous returner and so we kind of had a specific approach that we wanted to take. But what a job by Ethan.”
