The Los Angeles Rams made a change at kicker for their game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10 as they swapped out Joshua Karty for Harrison Mevis.
Mevis did not attempt any field goals in the win, but made all six of his extra point tries.
After a perfect Rams and NFL debut, head coach Sean McVay said that Mevis will again be the starting kicker for their matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11, via Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com:
Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed on Monday that Harrison Mevis will start at kicker for a second-straight game against the Seahawks this Sunday in Week 11.
McVay wants to see consistency from Mevis and thought he did a good job with his limited opportunities against the 49ers:
“It’s about being able to consistently replicate that (success) with the surrounding factors,” McVay said. “And I thought he did a heck of a job going six-for-six.”
Although Mevis is slated to be the Rams’ starter at kicker against the Seahawks, McVay still has high hopes for Karty:
“I have a lot of belief in Josh Karty,” McVay said. “I think he’s a guy that’s going to have an incredibly bright future. We’re going to continue to work with him.”
While the Rams are rolling with Mevis as their starting kicker for the time being, they clearly have not given up on Karty.
The 23-year-old got off to a good start this season but began to fall out of favor when he had a couple of key kicks blocked in the Rams’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Karty could be asked to step back into the role if Mevis struggles so it’s good that the Rams are continuing to work with him.
Rams waive Alex Ward; sign Jake McQuaide to active roster
The Los Angeles Rams waived long snapper Alex Ward and signed long snapper Jake McQuaide from their practice squad to their active roster.
McQuaide was elevated from the practice squad for the Rams’ Week 10 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. He replaced Ward, who was the team’s long snapper for the first eight games.
McQuaide is back with the Rams for the first time since 2020. He previously served as the team’s long snapper for 10 seasons, including their final five in St. Louis. McQuaide earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections from 2016-17 and will look for similar success in his second stint with the Rams.
