The Los Angeles Rams bounced back with a 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, which saw Matthew Stafford add another milestone to his impressive career.

With his five-yard completion to Puka Nacua early in the second quarter, Stafford passed Hall of Famer Dan Marino for ninth on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list.

Stafford discussed the accomplishment after the game and said he is humbled to be mentioned with some of the all-time greats, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I love this game. I love the history of it,” Stafford said postgame. “I remember being a little kid watching NFL films. Growing up, everybody’s watching cartoons, I was watching that. So it means a lot. I don’t think about it on a daily basis, but when it comes up, I have a ton of reverence and respect for this game and the people that have… come before me and played it. So just to be mentioned with those guys, it’s really humbling, and something that, I’m sure when I’m done playing, I’ll think about more. But kind of one of those pinch-yourself moments where you’re sitting there going, ‘Man, I remember watching him do his thing,’ and just thinking he was unbelievable, and being able to be in the same breath is pretty cool.”

Stafford completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 181 yards and one touchdown in the Rams’ win over the Ravens.

He has now thrown for 61,493 passing yards in his career. The only quarterbacks ahead of him in that statistic are Tom Brady (89,214), Drew Brees (80,358), Peyton Manning (71,940), Brett Favre (71,838), Ben Roethlisberger (64,088), Aaron Rodgers (63,973), Philip Rivers (63,440) and Matt Ryan (62,792).

Matthew Stafford not thinking about leading NFL in passing yards

Matthew Stafford currently leads the NFL with 1,684 passing yards, but he is more focused on helping the Rams win football games rather than his individual success.

“No, I don’t think too much about that,” Stafford said last week. “I’m just trying to execute the plays that are called as best I can. Obviously, I’ve had some success through the air early on in the season, trying to do everything I can to just get the ball to the guys that make the plays.

“Then if there are opportunities for me to make a play, buy a little extra time, do something like that, throw something down the field, then those have come to life. I’m not thinking about that surely in the moment. Maybe some other time when I’m done playing this game but no, I’m just trying to get us in the end zone and score as many points as I can.”
