After not getting much playing time as a rookie last year, Blake Corum is making the most of his increased opportunities with the Los Angeles Rams this season.

The 24-year-old had five carries for 44 yards and scored his first career NFL touchdown in the Rams’ 33-19 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Corum was grateful to find the end zone and credited Kyren Williams and running backs coach Ron Gould for helping him grow as a player, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“It felt great,” Corum said postgame. “Everyone’s journey is different, and I’m so thankful (for) the journey that I’m on. Learning from a great running back like Kyren (Williams), having Coach G (running backs coach Ron Gould) teach me so much. I learned so much from last year, and then going into Year 2. But it feels great getting into the end zone today, and hopefully there’s many more to come.”

Corum had two 15-yard runs against the Titans and looked explosive on the field, which several Rams coaches noted during summer workouts.

The Rams took Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft so they envision him being a big part of their offense, and the early results have certainly been promising.

Blake Corum could get more playing time with Rams

After the Rams’ win over the Titans, head coach Sean McVay suggested that Corum could get more opportunities as the season progresses.

“I was really pleased with Blake,” McVay said after the win. “I thought the gap run he had on second down and 10 where he got to the backside A-gap. Looked like he was going to come out clean. He’s explosive. He’s a good football player, I have a lot of trust in him. And then we’ll continue to see that moving forward, so I thought that was good today.”

Corum played in 30% of the Rams’ offensive snaps against the Titans and could continue seeing that kind of usage going forward.

“We have certain substitution patterns. I think the best way to be able to be consistent with it is you’re able to sustain drives,” McVay said on Monday. “I think what you’re looking for is something around a 65:35 ratio for those guys. I think you want Kyren playing about two-thirds of the time and Blake playing the other third. Different things come up. There are certain things that you want Kyren on, but I think Blake has done an excellent job. I think Kyren will be at his best throughout the course of the season. I think our job is to be able to figure out how to take advantage of two really damn good football players in that running back room.”
