The Los Angeles Rams announced that Ethan Evans, Rob Havenstein, Quentin Lake, Nate Landman, Matthew Stafford, Kobie Turner and Kyren Williams were voted team captains for the 2025 season.
Landman is among three first-time team captains, joining Evans and Williams. The 26-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Rams during the offseason and immediately made a good impression on the coaching staff.
“I think it says a lot about him,” head coach Sean McVay said about Landman being named a captain.
“I think he has really high emotional intelligence in terms of coming in, to be able to ask questions, to really be able to get familiar with his teammates and then being able to pick and choose his spots to be able to lead. I think that position in general, similar to the quarterback and the center position on offense, requires a level of communication.
“He’s wearing the green dot for us. He’s got great ownership from an all-22 perspective. The questions he asks… he understands what we’re really trying to get done and what [Defensive Coordinator] Chris [Shula] is trying to get done. I’m really pleased with him, and he’s been a great addition for us.”
With Landman wearing the green dot, he will be on the field for most of the Rams’ defensive snaps this season. It’s an important job as Landman will be responsible for relaying defensive coordinator Chris Shula’s play calls to his teammates.
Quentin Lake wore the green dot on defense last season, but Landman will now have that duty in his first season with the Rams.
Nate Landman explains decision to sign with Rams
Nate Landman explained his decision to join the Rams, citing his California roots and familiarity with some of the coaches.
“For me, a lot of things went into it,” he began. “One is the success of this program. Two, I’m a West Coast kid. Growing up in California and coming back home was a clear choice. Then, I built a pretty strong relationship last year with [Senior Defensive Assistant] Jimmy Lake. All those things combined allowed for an easy decision. Just super excited to be here, grateful for the opportunity and excited to get rolling.”
Landman added: “There’s going to be differences for sure. Everybody’s got their own flavor. I’m excited to have some familiarity with the defense, knowing how we want to attack offenses, some of the scheme stuff and some of the verbiage. I think that’ll make an easy transition for me coming from a similar scheme and having someone like Jimmy Lake that I have a relationship with.”
