Kyren Williams has become the lead running back in Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay’s offense and he’s earned it because he’s become one of the most reliable players at his position.

Williams’ rookie season was a wash due to injury, but he took off in his sophomore season after the Rams traded away Cam Akers. Since then, Williams has has operated as the workhorse in the backfield, dominating touches both in the run and pass game.

Heading into the 2025 season, Williams is up for a contract extension and his representation has been working with Los Angeles to get one done. So far, the two sides have yet to strike a deal though there’s optimism that an agreement will be reached.

Williams himself isn’t too worried as he has confidence the situation will work itself out, via ESPN LA:

“It’s in the works. I feel good about it. I have faith in it. I have faith that it’s all gonna get done and get done at the right time when it’s supposed to get done. I have no control over that. Only thing I have control out here is walking on that field and being the best that I can be for my teammates, for myself and just for my family who I’m doing this for. So I got faith that it will get done whenever it gets done, so I’m excited.”

Williams has been mature during the contract negotiation process, a positive sign considering it’s easy for talks to go sideways. While there were several star players around the league holding out for new deals, Williams seems content to continue practicing and playing despite not securing a deal yet.

Los Angeles has been burned by running back extensions in the past, so it’s no surprise to see them taking their time and trying to find a number that works best for both sides. There doesn’t seem to be any danger of things going awry, though it would be good to secure a deal before the start of the season.

By all accounts, Williams will be with the Rams for the long-haul and hopefully he’s able to maintain his efficiency on the ground and continue his dominance near the end zone.

Kyren Williams focused on ball security and explosiveness this offseason

Kyren Williams would be the first person to admit he has things to improve in his game, and this offseason he focused on ball security and explosiveness.
