The Los Angeles Rams flirted with the idea of a reunion with All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but the Miami Dolphins ultimately traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month.
The Rams also passed on the opportunity of signing former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander after not making any major moves to their secondary at the start of free agency.
If the Rams wanted to add another cornerback before the regular season, their best available options would be Asante Samuel Jr., Stephon Gilmore, Rasul Douglas and Mike Hilton.
However, head coach Sean McVay does not believe any additions are necessary and said he is happy with the Rams secondary going into the 2025 season, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com:
When asked whether he felt the Rams needed to add to the secondary if they do not add Ramsey, McVay said, “No, I feel good about where we’re at.”
As it currently stands, the Rams are set to enter the 2025 season with a secondary that includes Quentin Lake, Kam Curl, Kamren Kinchens, Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon, among others.
The group made strides last season, but there was some thought that they could use one more starting caliber cornerback. While Ramsey would have been an ideal fit, McVay cautioned all along that there were hurdles to getting a deal done.
And while that proved to be true, there is still a lot to like about the Rams secondary this year — even if experience is a bit of a concern.
If the unit is able to replicate their success from last season, there’s no telling how good the Rams defense could be, especially with one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.
Rams excited about Blake Corum
Another player the Rams have high hopes for is running back Blake Corum, who rushed for 207 yards on 58 attempts and caught seven passes for 58 yards in 16 games as a rookie.
Corum didn’t get much playing time at the start of last season but steadily saw more snaps as the year progressed.
Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, his rookie campaign came to a premature end after he fractured his right forearm in the Rams’ regular season finale.
Now back to full health, L.A. is expecting big things from the second-year running back in 2025. Rams running backs coach Ron Gould recently raved about how Corum has looked in workouts and said he is much more explosive compared to last year.
