For a moment, it seemed like Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams were heading for a divorce as the two sides negotiated a new deal.

Stafford made it known that he wanted more guaranteed money on his deal and the Rams allowed him to seek a trade to properly get a gauge of his market. After talking to teams, Los Angeles and Stafford eventually came to an agreement on a revised contract that worked for both sides.

With Stafford officially back for the 2025 season, the Rams are being touted as a serious Super Bowl contender following their 2025 NFL Playoff run. The offense should be better with a fully healthy Puka Nacua and the addition of Davante Adams, coupled with the return of their offensive line.

In preparation for training camp and the preseason, the team held their annual minicamp in Maui this year and Stafford expressed how much he enjoyed the experience, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“Oh, yeah. I mean, I’ve had a blast,” Stafford said. “That’s kind of above my pay grade, those people that make those decisions will figure that out, but we’ve had a good time, I know our team has enjoyed the experience and it’s been a lot of fun.”

The Rams paired up with the Hawai’i Tourism Authority to promote the Hawaiian islands with minicamp, another venture from the organization to grow its global presence. Over the course of minicamp, people got a chance to see a football team like Los Angeles up close which surely earned them more fans in the process.

It must have been a nice change of pace for the Rams who usually hold their minicamps in Southern California, and for someone like Stafford who’s been in the NFL for a while getting to train in paradise is a great experience. The quarterback sounded like he was more than open to returning to Maui for future minicamps, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Rams and the Hawai’i Tourism Authority continue their partnership.

Sean McVay confirms Aaron Rodgers was fallback plan if Matthew Stafford left Rams

Head coach Sean McVay made it known early on that his preference was for Matthew Stafford to return to the Rams in the offseason. Rumors circulated that Los Angeles could pivot to Aaron Rodgers if Stafford decided to go elsewhere and McVay confirmed that this was indeed the plan.

Fortunately, Stafford remained in Los Angeles while Rodgers wound up signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
