Although the Los Angeles Rams released franchise icon Cooper Kupp earlier in the offseason, they rebounded quickly by agreeing to terms with Davante Adams in free agency.

Adams signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Rams that included a $12 million signing bonus and $26 million in guaranteed money. Even at this stage of his career, Adams gives Los Angeles a true X-receiver to in tandem with Puka Nacua and Matthew Stafford and the veteran should find himself with plenty of space playing under head coach Sean McVay.

While Adams will provide a massive boost to the passing game, McVay’s offense still relies on the run game to create balance. Kyren Williams is expected to handle the lead role in the backfield again, though he should have more opportunities to rest with Blake Corum and Jarquez Hunter behind him.

Adams should make everyone’s life on offense easier and Williams expressed his excitement to play alongside the former All-Pro, via D.J. Siddiqi of Great Offshore Sportsbooks:

“Being able to see Davante Adams is another cool person too,” says Williams of Adams. “I’ve been in the league for four years now, so I’ve obviously seen Adams in his prime with Packers Aaron Rodgers and I was like, ‘Dang, dope player. He’s super good. I would love to play with him.’ Now that I’m actually in the same room and play with him, that makes it real.”

Williams also said having Adams on the field will push him to play even harder:

“It also makes me want to go hard,” says Willams. “Makes me want to go ball out so that he can see that I’m a really good player because I want respect from the OGs. Being able to get that from him would be an honor, absolutely.”

Adams is the kind of player that elevates a team due to his sheer talent and the amount of attention he draws. Although he is more than capable of taking over a game, he shouldn’t have to in Los Angeles as there are plenty of weapons like Williams to utilize.

It remains to be seen how Adams’ inclusion will work out, but it’s hard to imagine things will go poorly given what he can still do on the field.

Matthew Stafford feels lucky to throw to Davante Adams

Matthew Stafford has been fortunate enough to throw to some of the best receivers in NFL history, but he still feels lucky to throw to someone like Davante Adams.
