After trading out of the first round, the Los Angeles Rams took Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ferguson had a productive career with the Ducks and gives the Rams another weapon at the tight end position, which was a priority as Tyler Higbee is entering the final year of his contract.

The Rams’ 2025 draft picks were recently assigned their jersey numbers, and Ferguson will wear the No. 18 to begin his NFL career. He wore the Nos. 19 and 3 in college, but had a very good reason for choosing 18 with the Rams.

Ferguson explained that his late Ducks teammate Spencer Webb wore the No. 18 and wants to continue honoring him with the Rams, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“My late friend Spencer Webb wore 18 when I first got there, and that’s who I knew him as is 18,” Ferguson said. “Wearing that number after he passed away just to honor him, so it’s really big to me.”

Webb passed away in July 2022 after a recreational accident. Ferguson believes wearing the No. 18 will remind others of the impact Webb made during his life:

“It happened a couple years ago now, and people can lose sight of that,” Ferguson said. “For me, having that number, it’s like having him out there with me. But then also just kind of making sure people still remember by honoring him through his number, of who he was, what he stood for, and a lot of good things he brought to the game. And so just being able to honor him, really, and just keep him with me, but also keep him for everybody else to see.”

Webb served as an inspiration to many people and it is great that Ferguson will continue to pay homage to him as he begins his NFL career.

Ferguson also has Webb’s No. 18 tattooed on his left arm and now he will get to wear it in games with the Rams as a tribute to his friend.

Rams preferred Terrance Ferguson over Mason Taylor in 2025 NFL Draft

The Rams had other tight end prospects in mind during the 2025 NFL Draft, but reportedly still would have chosen Terrance Ferguson even if LSU’s Mason Taylor was on the board. Taylor ended up being selected four picks earlier in the second round by the New York Jets.

Taylor was one of three tight ends chosen before Ferguson, along with the Chicago Bears’ selection of Colston Loveland at No. 10 and the Indianapolis Colts’ pick of Tyler Warren at No. 14.
