The Los Angeles Rams’ big offseason move was bringing in veteran wide receiver Davante Adams, giving quarterback Matthew Stafford a legit threat to work with on the outside.
Stafford is a very wide receiver friendly quarterback as the two best receiving seasons of all time, Calvin Johnson and Cooper Kupp, both came with him throwing him the ball.
Because of that, Adams is looking forward to teaming with Stafford and has heard great things about him.
“He doesn’t make it any harder than it needs to be out there. He’s simple,” Adams said. “Dating back to when ‘Megatron’ [Hall of Fame WR Calvin Johnson] broke the record, I think he needed like 180- something [yards] and he went and got him like 220-something [yards]. Seeing that and just knowing that in that situation, I don’t think they were headed anywhere near the playoffs, but to play in that game, not check out in the last game of the year, know how much that means to ‘Megatron’ and know how much it means to him to be a part of something like that, it just says the type of person that he is.
“Playing each other over the years and crossing paths a few times, I gathered that he was a pretty nice, straightforward guy. You never hear anything bad in the media or anything like that. Coming out here and getting a chance to meet with him and talk to him a little bit today just kind of solidified it. I talked to him while I was in Japan as well. He reached out and let me know he was excited about the opportunity. I don’t know if he was quite as eager as Sean was, but it was still a good feeling knowing that the quarterback wants you to be there too.”
Adams also discussed how he and Stafford will be able to build a connection, which shouldn’t be difficult considering how long they have both played.
“Just through communication. That’s the biggest way. That’s the way I learned,” he said. “I started in this game playing with [Former New York Jets Quarterback] Aaron Rogers and he’s one of the most detail-oriented football players that this game’s ever seen. Me coming in I was raw, and I didn’t really have the same outlook on the game as I do now. That changed over time. Sometimes just being with certain people, it allows you to elevate your mental approach.
“Like I said, that football acumen in general. It’ll just be another step and another person to communicate with and just so happens it’s going to be one of the better quarterbacks to play this game so I’m excited.”
With Adams, Stafford and Puka Nacua, the Rams have a chance to be one of the better passing offenses in the league in 2025.
Jommy Garoppolo ‘pumped’ that Rams signed Davante Adams
One person who was happy to see Davante Adams sign with the Rams is backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is a former teammate of his with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Pumped man. I haven’t seen him in a while, talented receiver. It’ll be fun seeing him again and just getting back on the same page. I’ve seen what he can do before,” Garoppolo said of Adams.
