The Los Angeles Rams announced their team captains for the 2022 season. Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Rob Havenstein represent the offense while Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and Bobby Wagner lead the defense. Team captains are voted on by the players.
Stafford, Kupp, Donald and Ramsey return as captains, with Donald being the longest-tenured one as he enters his fifth season as a captain. This is Kupp’s third time being named a captain, while Stafford and Ramsey earned the honors for a second year.
With Andrew Whitworth now retired, Havenstein steps in as a first-time leader for the offensive line. Meanwhile, newcomer Wagner was named a captain during his first season in Los Angeles though he held the title for several years during his time with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Rams have no shortage of leaders to lean on the roster despite the departure of players like Johnny Hekker and Robert Woods, who served as captains for last season. L.A. is a veteran-laden team, and the players selected all have ample experience in the NFL.
For the 2022 year, the Rams elected to only name six captains in total versus 2021 where they had eight players. Los Angeles has five of those eight players on this year’s roster, with Jordan Fuller being the odd man out of the captain group.
The captains will be tasked with making sure the Rams stay focused both on and off the field as they try to become one of the rare teams to repeat as Super Bowl champions. The collective knowledge, experience, and talent of the group is undeniable though they’ll need to execute week in and week out if they want to meet that lofty goal.
