Los Angeles Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner has established the Phenia Mae fund to assist stroke patients and promote stroke education.
The fund was named in memory of his mother, who passed away from stroke complications in 2009. Wagner established the fund because it coincides with the conclusion of Stroke Awareness Month and his mother’s birthday on May 27.
The Phenia Mae fund will benefit two Los Angeles regional hospitals that treated her — Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente in San Bernadino — and also help promote stroke education efforts with Cedars-Sinai, the official health partner of the Rams.
Wagner joined the Rams on a five-year contract earlier this offseason after he was unexpectedly released by the Seattle Seahawks.

It marked a homecoming for Wagner, who was born and raised in the L.A. area. Despite being one of the newest Rams, he has wasted no time giving back to the community.
In addition to his kind gesture, Wagner has already begun to impress his new teammates during organized team activities.
In terms of adjustments he will have to make, Wagner cited learning the Rams’ defensive scheme and the L.A. traffic he will have to regularly deal with on his commute.
