After a dominant Super Bowl run, all eyes are on Aaron Donald and his looming contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams.

There were murmurs that Donald was considering retiring following the Rams’ championship, but it was later reported that his camp had been in talks on a possible extension. Los Angeles’ front office has conveyed they are confident a deal will get done, though nothing concrete has come out as of yet.

Donald has said that he’s at peace with retirement if a deal doesn’t get done, although both sides seem motivated to avoid that scenario.

In the meantime, Donald made waves when he announced that he signed with Kanye West’s marketing agency Donda Sports via his Instagram account:

In an appearance on the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Donald explained the decision, emphasizing the inclusion of his wife as transcribed by Cameron DaSilva of USA Today:

“It was an opportunity that came to us, me and (my wife), and it made sense,” he said. “And hearing the whole spectrum of everything that’s going on and what they were going to be bringing, the family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports. Not just me, but my wife being a part of that. For me, it was a no-brainer.”

Donald also admitted that the move signaled a chance to build something from the ground up:

“I think it’s a hell of an opportunity to open up a lot of different doors and a lot of different things outside of football that I wanna be involved in, I wanna do, that my wife wanna do,” he continued. “So, to be a part of that, and be one of the best first athletes to be a part of that, it’s pretty dope. We’re excited about it, and we’re gonna see where this thing goes.”

Donald should have no shortage of things to do after football, and teaming up with West looks like the first step toward setting up his post-playing career.
