Rams News: Sean McVay Expects Odell Beckham Jr.’s Role To Increase Coming Out Of Bye

The Los Angeles Rams continued to stack their roster with top-end talent when they won the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes.

Beckham was linked to several teams like the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints after he was released by the Cleveland Browns, but the lure of a winning culture and the bright lights of Los Angeles was enough for the receiver to ultimately pick the Rams. However, his debut for Los Angeles was underwhelming as the team came out flat and were eventually boat raced by the San Francisco 49ers.

Fortunately for the Rams and Beckham, the bye week followed after which gave both sides a chance to regroup and gather their bearings before the 2021 season’s homestretch. Head coach Sean McVay said he was focused on getting Beckham as up to speed as possible during the break and the head coach revealed his new weapon should be featured often, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN:

With Robert Woods out for the season, Beckham figures to absorb the vacated targets despite his role in the offense likely to be different. Woods was a pivotal piece because of all the little things he does as a blocker and a runner, while Beckham is more of a downfield threat that should be able to flourish next to a quarterback like Matthew Stafford.

McVay has the tough challenge of working in a player like Beckham on the fly and he will need to find ways to get him involved in Week 12 when the Rams take on the Green Bay Packers in what has major playoff implications. Should Los Angeles outlast Green Bay on the road, they will be right back in the mix to win the NFC.
