With free agency slowing to a crawl, all eyes turn towards the 2021 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams will be short another first-round draft pick, but general manager Les Snead has proven that he does not need high selections to find impact players.
As far as needs go, the Rams could use more offensive lineman to develop within their system, as well as defensive back depth. There is also the perpetual need for pass rushers who can complement Aaron Donald.
While the draft is taking up every team’s time, there are some interesting potential changes that could be on the way. After agreeing to extend the regular season to 17 games, the NFL is also considering allowing position and defensive players to wear single-digit numbers.
Jalen Ramsey is one player who is excited about the prospect of being able to wear a single digit number. Ramsey wore #8 during his time with Florida State but took to Twitter to express his desire to wear a different number:
I want # ✌🏾
I’ll only wear 8 if we get more Noles like @DerwinJames & @TreyMarshallSr lol https://t.co/gquQdaiVyr

However, Ramsey would likely have competition for the number as Robert Woods would likely want #2 after wearing the number during his USC days:
I forgot that @robertwoods would definitely want number ✌🏾 but y’all just let him know that that 17 fye 😂

Ramsey currently wears #20 for the Rams, so a switch to #2 makes sense. As things currently stand, defensive backs are only permitted to wear numbers 20-49 while wide receivers can choose from 10-19 and 80-89.
Woods has been with the team longer, so it will be interesting to see if that is enough to secure No. 2. However, this is all a purely hypothetical situation as the league has yet to vote on the rule. Still, it would be a fun change for both the players and fans so hopefully the NFL decides to pass the notion.
