The Los Angeles Rams sit at 5-3 during the 2020 season, a solid start but one that leaves something left to be desired as they have the talent to be one of the best teams in the NFL.
Their Week 8 loss to the Miami Dolphins was a setback as they had a chance to capitalize and tie for the lead in the NFC West. Now, however, they will face an uphill climb as they have five divisional games after their Week 9 bye starting with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10.
Fortunately for Los Angeles, the offense looks better this year compared to the 2019 season as the offensive line has once again found its groove. David Edwards and Austin Corbett have shored up the guard spots, while Austin Blythe has been solid at center. However, Andrew Whitworth has somehow turned back the clock and regains his Pro Bowl status as a left tackle.
Whitworth has not given up many pressures this season and is a stabilizing presence for the offensive line and Jared Goff. Despite his on-field performance, Whitworth has also been a massive presence in the Los Angeles community and for his efforts, he was recently nominated for the NFL’s “Salute to Service” Award.
The left tackle recently joined Merging Vets and Players (MVP) among others to help hold a virtual fundraiser to raise $100,000 for veterans and athletes that were impacted by COVID-19 (coronavirus). Whitworth has also spent previous offseasons training with some of MVP’s veterans at Unbreakable gym in Hollywood, as well as represented the organization during the 2017 and 2019 “My Cause My Cleats” campaigns.
Among his charitable acts, Whitworth participated in the NFL’s All-Community Team ticket program where he bought 50 tickets for every home game that were donated to a variety of military programs including the USC Veterans group, MVP, and local military bases.
The Salute to Service Award presented by USAA is given out annually and acknowledges the exceptional efforts by members of the NFL community to honor and support U.S. service members, veterans and their families. Finalists for the award will be named in January and the winner will be recognized at the NFL Honors show the week before the Super Bowl.
