The 2020 season was supposed to be a big one for the Los Angeles Rams organization with the opening of the brand new state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium.
Unfortunately, that is not going to take place as scheduled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has shut down the whole country for the last couple of months.
All of the recent updates on the virus and the return of sports have been positive though, and that was again the case on Monday when California Governor Gavin Newsom made a big announcement.
“Sporting events, pro sports, in that first week or so of June — without spectators and (with) modifications and very prescriptive conditions — can also begin to move forward,” Newsom said in his press conference.
This statement applies more to the NBA, MLB and MLS considering the NFL season isn’t set to start until September. If sports are starting back up in June though, then there shouldn’t be any issues a few months later when the Rams open up SoFi Stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.
While Newsom did give the OK for sports to begin resuming, there still likely won’t be any fans in stadiums until 2021 at the earliest, so the inaugural season at SoFi Stadium will be an unconventional one.
Regardless though, this is very positive news for the world of sports and the Rams, who could begin returning to their practice facility in the coming weeks. To this point, the organization has been limited to virtual meetings and workouts.
With so many new players and coaches on the roster though, being able to meet in person will be crucial to the Rams’ success in 2020.
Only time will tell how the coronavirus continues to affect the country in the coming months, but all of the recent updates have been positive and it seems like the 2020 NFL season will go on as scheduled.
