After the Los Angeles Rams have decided to part ways with running back Todd Gurley in an effort to shore up some much-needed cap space, he did not waste any time finding a new home as the Atlanta Falcons announced that they will be signing him to a one-year contract.

Gurley is coming off an underwhelming 2019 NFL season as he struggled to find his footing in this lackluster offense while battling concerns about a lingering knee injury. As a result, the Rams opted to go in a different direction just two seasons after making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.

Gurley did not waste any time testing the market as a free agent for the first time in his career. He is returning to the state of Georgia, where he went to college, and it appears he is going into the 2020 NFL season with something to prove:

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Gurley is going to be playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder moving forward:

“It sounds like he wants prove it, he wants to prove he’s still got it and show the Rams that he is as healthy and productive as he has been.”

Gurley certainly has good reason to be confident given his impressive resume as a former NFL Offensive Player of the Year, three-time Pro Bowler, and three-time All-Pro.

Atlanta certainly makes for an intriguing option since they have a notable void to fill with the release of running back Devonta Freeman. He will also be joining former Rams outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr., who signed a three-year contract with the Falcons earlier this week.

With Gurley signing a one-year contract, he has the chance to rebound in the 2020 season before hitting the free-agent market again next offseason at the age of 26.
