NFL Free Agency News: CJ Anderson Says Rams Have Not Made Contract Offer Yet

When Malcolm Brown and then later Todd Gurley went down with injuries late in the 2018 season, the Los Angeles Rams decided to bring in veteran C.J. Anderson to help sure up their running back depth.

Anderson was released by both the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders in 2018, so expectations were not all that high, and the 28-year-old ended up blowing them out of the water.

In Anderson’s first game with the team, he carried the ball 20 times for 167 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. He then followed that up the next week with 23 carries for 132 yards and a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers.

Gurley was able to return for the playoffs, but Anderson still out-carried him in the Rams’ Super Bowl run, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys and then 44 yards and 22 yards against the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, respectively, as Gurley was still not 100 percent healthy.

The Rams are currently without a backup for Gurley in place for the 2019 season, and Les Snead has made it clear that the hope is to bring Anderson back. Despite that though, Anderson took to Twitter to reveal that he has not yet received an offer from the Rams:

If the Rams are unable to come to terms with Anderson then there are plenty of other options available, including Brown, who is a restricted free agent.

Considering how much success Anderson had with the Rams at the end of last year, it is a bit surprising that he is not getting any offers to start for a team. That could end up working to the Rams benefit though as even though they haven’t yet offered a contract, a reunion and another opportunity to win a Super Bowl in 2019 seems like a likely scenario.
