There has been plenty of speculation regarding Todd Gurley’s role in the Los Angeles Rams offense in the last two games of the 2018 NFL season and it appears CJ Anderson may have given some insight.
Gurley had suffered a knee injury down the final stretch of the season. Although he was able to return for the playoffs, he was virtually non-existent in both of the team’s championship games.
Los Angeles had been adamant about Gurley’s knee not being an issue, but Anderson has now suggested otherwise.
He said during an appearance on UNDISPUTED that Gurley was more hurt than what everyone had presumed:
“He was more hurt than what we thought,” Anderson said. “The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself.”
However, Anderson later clarified these comments about his teammate:
Everybody is buzzin @RealSkipBayless ask how hurt was TG WHEN I GOT TO YHE RAMS. That was week 16. The response more than we all thought. Including my self. Not playoffs when he return when he was healthy. THE ? Was HOW HURT WAS HE WHEN YOU GOT THERE? Dummies how bout yall listen

Anderson’s comments are hardly surprising after how the season played out. Gurley went from enjoying yet another MVP-caliber season to being relegated to a minor role in the offense in just a matter of weeks.
Gurley’s usage was also magnified by the fact that he was essentially being outplayed by a much-fresher Anderson. It was also hardly indicative of what Los Angeles intended for him last offseason when he became the highest-paid running back in the league.
Gurley’s health will undoubtedly be a cause for concern in Los Angeles moving forward considering his track record with his knee. At this point, is safe to say the team’s top priority will be making sure he remains as healthy as possible.
