Rams News: Jared Goff Clears Concussion Protocol, Will Play Saturday Vs. 49ers

The Los Angeles Rams suffered a scare last Thursday night in their game against the Seattle Seahawks as in the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach quarterback Jared Goff took off to run down the sidelines.

Instead of hustling to get out of bounds so he doesn’t get hit, he slowed up and didn’t see quarterback Richard Sherman coming right at him.

Sherman laid a blistering hit on Goff, knocking him out of bounds and the rookie appeared to have fallen on his head.

The referees stopped the game to get Goff out to be checked for a concussion, and Goff ended up being replaced by Case Keenum for the rest of the game.

After the game he went into the NFL’s concussion protocol. Luckily for Goff it happened on a Thursday night game, so he had more than a week to get through the protocol to be ready for the Rams Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

While no one actually thought he was in danger of missing the game, just days before the game Goff had still not passed the protocol. But according to Myles Simmons of TheRams.com, Goff cleared the protocol Thursday morning and will be ready to go on Saturday:

Rams interim HC Fassel says QB Jared Goff has cleared the concussion protocol and will start on Saturday vs. 49ers.

Goff will be making his six career start, and while he has gone 0-5 so far this could be his best opportunity to get a win as the 49ers have not won a game since Week 1 when the defeated Los Angeles.

So far on the season Goff has completed 54.7 percent of his passes for 879 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

If Goff can finish out the season strong these last two weeks it will leave the organization and fans with a glimmer of hope in regards to their top overall pick from 2016 heading into next season.
