During the offseason most NFL players spend time with their families, go on vacations, and get in shape. One important Denver Broncos player chose to take a trip to the Kentucky Derby and unfortunately made a costly error in judgement.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Broncos’ wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Welker tested positive for amphetamines as a result of taking MDMA or otherwise known as Ecstacy or Molly. Welker has gone on to deny that he took such drugs.

“I wouldn’t have any idea where to get a Molly or what a Molly is. That’s a joke. I don’t do marijuana, I don’t do drugs. I don’t do any drugs.

The 33-year-old receiver, who is entering his 11th season, second with the Broncos, also said he now knows the drug-policy procedures in the league are “clearly flawed,” according to his email to the Post, and that he will do everything in his power to make corrections to the testing procedures.

Welker, who has been struggling with concussion symptoms, will now get an involuntary rest from football in hopes become 100 percent healthy.

The Broncos open the season Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts. Welker will be eligible to return to the active roster Oct. 6.
