Jamaal Charles and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a very lucrative extension deal for the next two years, NFL Networks’s Ian Rapoport reports:

It looked as if Charles would hold out of training camp while waiting on a new deal. Many had even reported that Charles indeed was holding out. But Charles had the perfect explanation for his absence:
I had no intention on holding out…I just ran out of gas on the way to camp and my cell phone battery died. It was a long walk I tell ya.

His previous contract had two years remaining, and now this extension will lengthen the contract until 2017. Charles will be making an extra $5.1 million over the next two seasons including a $4.4 million raise this year making him the second-highest paid RB in football behind Adrian Peterson.
Coming off a career season, Charles was looking to cash in. In the 2013 season, Charles led the Chiefs in rushing and receiving, and led the NFL in touchdowns with 19.
He ended the season with 259 carries for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught 70 passes for 693 yards and another seven touchdowns.
With these numbers Jamaal Charles made his imprint on the NFL as a five-star running back and now he will be getting paid like one.
