Johnny Manziel has yet to play a down in the NFL, but that hasn’t stopped his jersey from climbing to the top of sales list.
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Manziel’s No. 2 Cleveland Browns jersey is the highest selling of the NFL’s first quarter:
The NFL announced on Monday that more Johnny Manziel No. 2 Cleveland Browns jerseys were sold on NFLShop.com during the first quarter of the league’s fiscal year than any other player’s jersey.
Manziel’s popularity was already through the roof stemming from an amazing two-year run at Texas A&M. He has also made headlines for his life off the field, frequently being seen at parties with the likes of Drake and LeBron James.
Following Manziel on the list is Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning, and Seahawks CB Richard Sherman.
With Brian Hoyer on the roster, Manziel is unlikely to begin the season as the Browns starting QB, but fans will be calling for him to hit the field from Day One, especially if Hoyer struggles.
Manziel’s popularity has vaulted the Browns up to the third spot amongst most popular NFL teams as far as jersey sales, trailing only the Seahawks and the 49ers. He is also the highest rated Browns player in jersey sales since the NFL began keeping track in 2001.
Rounding out the top-10 is St. Louis Rams rookie Michael Sam, the first openly gay player in the NFL, followed by the Patriots’ Tom Brady, the Saints’ Drew Brees, the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, and the Seattle Seahawks’ 12th Man jersey.
