Raiders News: Linebacker Sio Moore Voted NFL Rookie Of The Week
Coming off their Week 8 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders rookie Sio Moore had his best game of the season.
The linebacker out of UConn had six tackles and 1.5 sacks in the 21-18 victory over the Steelers and was nominated for the Pepsi Next Rookie of the Week.
Earlier today, the Raiders official Twitter account tweeted the results of the vote:
Moore beat out Andre Ellington of the Arizona Cardinals, Kenny Stills of the New Orleans Saints, Eddie Lacy of the Green Bay Packers and Cordarrelle Patterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
The 23-year-old has been playing better as the weeks go by and looks to be becoming a very productive linebacker in the Raiders 10th-ranked defense. On the season, Moore has 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks but has stepped it up as of late and has eight tackles and all his sacks in the past two games.
The Raiders selected Moore with the 66th overall pick in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Moore played four seasons at UConn and was the leading tackler in the Big East as a sophomore in 2010. He was an All-Big East First Team selection in 2012 following his senior year.
The team has been grooming Moore to become an every down linebacker that will become the leader of the defense. Moore has shown significant strides since Week 1 and was recognized this week with the award.
Look for Moore to receive more nominations for the award this season and he may win again.
