Former Giants running back Tiki Barber is never afraid to speak his mind and made another interesting statement in regards to Peyton and Eli Manning.
Peyton lead the Broncos to the best record in the AFC in his first season in the Mile High City, but lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round. Meanwhile, Eli and the Giants didn’t make the playoffs after a 9-7 season and Barber discussed which brother was better on his CBS Radio show via ESPN.com:
“The expectation was that he was never going to be Peyton. I remember having these conversations with people who watched Eli in college, saying, ‘He’s good, but he’s never going to be Peyton, he’s not Peyton.’ Guess what? I think he’s better than Peyton.
“Because of clutch. What matters in sports? It’s winning and losing. You get to the stage and what do you do? Eli’s gotten there, and he’s won,”.
Manning and the Giants have won two Super Bowls, both over the New England Patriots, while Peyton has surprisingly struggled in the playoffs.
While he leads brother Peyton in terms of Super Bowl victories, Eli also has a better playoff record as he’s 8-3 while Peyton is 9-11.
Peyton definitely has Eli beat in stats, but Barber’s main concern in comparing the two brothers is their ability to make the playoffs and lead their respective teams to the Super Bowl.
Many thought that Peyton’s career was over after a significant neck injury he sustained, but he put up incredible numbers with the Broncos last season. In his first season with the team, Peyton threw for 4,659 yards with 37 touchdowns while Eli threw for almost a thousand yards less with 11 fewer touchdowns.
Regardless, both quarterbacks are among the games best and the brothers will have a chance to play against each other in Week 2 in New Jersey.
