The Cincinnati Bengals are a team on the rise in the AFC with the dynamic duo of quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green leading the way.
Although the Bengals have made tremendous strides over past two years with these two stars in the making, the Bengals have lost in the first round of the playoffs in convincing fashion in consecutive years.
Speculation has started to circulate about whether or not Dalton is the right man for the job under center, but Green claims it won’t be make-or-break for Dalton heading into next season via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:
“I don’t feel like it’s a make-or-break year for him,” Green said Tuesday morning as he camped out at Mason Middle School in the Cincinnati ‘burbs. “He’s still the quarterback of the future because he has every intangible to be a great one. He works hard, he has great leadership. I think he’ll be fine.”
With the Bengals competing with defending Super Bowl Baltimore Ravens and always strong Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, Cincinnati will be challenged once again next season in order to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC.
Dalton and company have proven to be a solid team regardless of the competition within the division and will likely be a force to be reckoned with once again, but another early playoff exit or failure to make the postseason may be enough to make the team consider other options at the quarterback position.
Heading into the upcoming season, the Bengals will be showcased on the popular HBO series Hard Knocks for the second time. Dalton and Green will likely be in the spotlight during the series while the question of playoff struggles will probably be a topic of discussion.
