The Los Angeles Rams made yet another splash with the acquisition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the New England Patriots in exchange for a two draft picks including the 23rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This move has added a proven commodity to the offense that could continue their surge in the right direction.

Cooks also happens to be a player that the Rams have long kept an eye on to add to the mix even prior to being moved the Patriots last offseason. During an interview with ESPN Los Angeles on Wednesday morning, head coach Sean McVay voiced his admiration for his team’s latest addition h/t Cameron DaSilva of Ramswire:

“I’ve always been a fan of this guy and just watching him coming out, just a strong, physical [player],” McVay said on ESPN Los Angeles Wednesday. “He might be small in stature but he’s a physical player. He’s wired to separate. You see him create after the catch. You see him track the ball downfield.”

The 24-year-old is a uniquely talented wide receiver that has shown the ability to stretch the field with his speed as a legitimate deep-ball threat. He is a versatile player that has the ability to line up anywhere and be a major factor in the passing game.

Although he didn’t necessarily fit the build of a No.1 wideout that the Patriots were hoping to see, Cooks still put together a highly productive 2017 campaign with 65 catches for 1,082 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions. This marked the third straight year with at least 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.

The Rams clearly have high aspirations for Cooks to be a major part of their offensive game plan given that they are already working toward a long-term extension with him. All of this may help take their passing attack to the next level next season.
